The Swan Inn at Newby Bridge on the banks of Lake Windermere has just reopened, looking very spruce after a £4 million refurbishment. Despite the pristine decor, it's a child-friendly place with a large indoor pool, sauna and hot tub, a library area with children's games, PlayStation 3s in some of the larger bedrooms and a children's menu.
