Whilst we’re patiently waiting for warmer weather and longer days, we’ve created a list of all our favourite things to do in the Lake District throughout spring and summer. We hope it’ll help you start planning your holidays, because they’ll be here before you know it (we’re sure of it).

Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway Co. Ltd Easter Egg Weekend, 30th March-2nd April
A day out to remember, plus all children receive a free Cream Easter Egg. Travel back in time when you climb aboard and enjoy the stunning views along the way.
Cost: From £2.70 for a child or £4.20 for an adult
Location: The Lakeside & Haverthwaite railway runs between Haverthwaite Station (located on the A590 near the Swan Hotel), and Lakeside Pier.
Where is Peter Rabbit? Treasure Trail
This year marks the 10th year of the World of Beatrix Potter’s famous Peter Rabbit Egg Hunt. Discover beautiful Lake District scenery and find eggs along the way.
To enter, you need to register via the World of Beatrix Potter website and make a minimum donation of £5 to WaterAid, they'll then email you the map on Wednesday 4th April at 10am.
Milkshake Live - Wednesday 11th April, 12pm and 3.30pm
All singing, all dancing, musical, perfect for entertaining little ones. See family favourites; Bob the Builder, Little Princess, Noddy and Fireman Sam.
Location: 28 Duke St, Barrow-in-Furness LA14 1HH (30min drive from the Swan)
Hide from the April showers with indoor climbing walls (including an ice wall) at Kong Adventure Centre (1hour drive from the Swan).
Take a journey beneath the waters of the world, from Lake Windermere to the Amazon River at the Lakes Aquarium (a 20min walk or 3min drive from the Swan).
Don't forget: 7th and 28th May are Bank Holidays. Yay.
Kendal Walking Festival, 11th-13th May
The Kendal Walking Festival returns for 2018. Take part in guided walking based in the beautiful South Lakes town of Kendal.
Cost: From free to £10 depending on the walk you choose.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, 15th-19th May
It was red and yellow and green and brown and blue. Sing along to this hit musical at The Forum Barrow.

If you can’t make the Kendal Walking Festival, there are many different trails you can do around the market town. Choose from seasonal trails, kids trails, historical trails and our favourite (one for the adults), the beer, wine and food trail (20min drive from the Swan).
The Lake District's only boat show on the iconic Windermere Lake.
When: 18th - 20th May
Location: Bowness-on-Windermere Lake
A Guided Walk - Farming Valley to a Felltop Ridge, 1st June, 10am
Enjoy splendid views over Ambleside, Rydal Water and beyond.
Cost: £10 per adult, kids go free
Location: Starts at Brockhole on Windermere, LA23 1LJ (30min drive from the Swan)
The Great North Swim, 8th-10th June
The Great North Swim moves to its new home in 2018, Brockhole - the Lake District Visitor Centre. Watch from the sidelines or join in and choose from 250 metres, 1/2 a mile, 1 mile, 2 miles, 5k or a 10k.
Cost: Depending on your swimming distance.

Race for Life, 9th & 10th June
Set in the glorious setting of Lowther Castle, raise money for charity, take in the impressive views of the castle and get moving. There's something for everyone (1hr drive from the Swan)
Open all year round, it's worth taking a visit to Holehird Gardens each season, but summer is a great time to start. It's located in a stunning setting overlooking Windermere (under a 30min drive from the Swan). Admission is by donation, the gardens are run by volunteers and they suggest a minimum of £5 per adult, with free entry for children. Look out for workshops and activities.
Just down the road from the Swan in a converted mill, you'll find Lakeland Motor Museum. From bicycles to motorcars and all the motorcycles in between, there are over 30,000 exhibits to keep the whole family entertained.
Navigation Skills for Beginners, 21st July, 10am
Head outdoors in the Lake District to learn basic navigation skills in small, friendly groups. Map and compass provided. Great for families with kids 11+
Cost: Adult £15, child £6

Chocolate Workshops, 7 days a week
A unique and interactive experience with chocolate, need we say more? You can relax whilst your children make delicious chocolate creations.
Cost: £15 per child
Location: Cocoabean Hawkshead, Main Street, Hawkshead, Ambleside, LA22 0NT (20min drive from the Swan)
Horse riding at Bigland Hall, open all year
With horses and ponies to suit every rider, why not book a riding lesson at Bigland Hall? From beginners right up to classical dressage, everyone will be well looked after (and it's just down the road from the Swan).
Don't forget: 27th August is a bank holiday. Make the most of the last one before Christmas!
Where is Peter Rabbit? Live Theatre show, until 2nd September
This unique theatre production brings to life five of Beatrix Potter’s famous stories in a visual and musical spectacular.
Cost: From £8 for children and £10.50 for adults
Location: Bowness-on-Windermere, LA23 3BX
Make the most of the (hopefully) nice weather and head out for a run with local running group Jogging Pals.
And don't leave without visiting one of our favourite places, Fell Foot National Trust (just a 4min drive or under 30min walk from the Swan). As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it's part of a special family of iconic places across the planet including the Taj Mahal, the Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon. The mountain views are spectacular but don't take our word for it, head there for various activities including walking, running, swimming or hire a boat or canoe.
There's also a weekly timed Parkrun event at Fell Foot, the perfect start to Saturday mornings!
