Things to do in the Lake District in 2018

Plan your holidays for the year

Whilst we’re patiently waiting for warmer weather and longer days, we’ve created a list of all our favourite things to do in the Lake District throughout spring and summer. We hope it’ll help you start planning your holidays, because they’ll be here before you know it (we’re sure of it).

Don't forget: It's Mother’s Day on Sunday 11th March

What’s on?

The Peter Rabbit Movie - 16th March
The release of the new Peter Rabbit film on the 16th March has got us very excited at the Swan. It's one of our favourite children's books (and not just because it was inspired by Beatrix Potter's childhood trips to the Lake District). In fact, we love it so much we even named our family suites the 'Beatrix Suite' and the 'Potter Suite'.

If you want to relive the magic, why not visit the World of Beatrix Potter attraction (22min drive from the Swan) or follow the Beatrix Potter Trail from Brockhole on Windermere (30min drive from the Swan).

Beauty and the Beast Easter Panto - 30th-31st March and 2nd-4th April
A family pantomime full of magic.

Other things to do:

Go Ape Grizedale reopens after the winter for weekends in March. Dust off the cobwebs in the trees taking on Zip Wires, Tarzan Swings, Rope Ladders and more (30min drive from the Swan).

For something indoors, visit the Dock Museum where there’s an exhibition on the little-told story of Barrow's contribution to the First World War (30min drive from the Swan).

Don't forget: It's Easter 30th March-2nd April!

What’s on?

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it's part of a special family of iconic places across the planet including the Taj Mahal, the Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon. The mountain views are spectacular but don't take our word for it, head there for various activities including walking, running, swimming or hire a boat or canoe.

There's also a weekly timed Parkrun event at Fell Foot, the perfect start to Saturday mornings!
