Half term will be here before you know it.

Visiting the Lake District in October

Things to do in the Lakes in October Half Term

Ghoulish Scavenger Hunt – Brockhole

Taking place at the Lake District Visitor Centre in Brockhole, this is a family friendly event with prizes to be won. Taking place on October the 22nd, 29th and 30th. No need to book, so just grab your boots and head out for a day of ghoul hunting.

Witches and Wizards Week – Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway

Starting on the 24th of October, the Witches and Wizards week is another chance to indulge in something a little spooky ahead of Halloween. Attractions will include a haunted carriage, a ghoul trail and spooky events at the Lakeside aquarium. Best of all, kids who come in fancy dress get a free ride and free entry into the aquarium when accompanied by a paying adult.

Halloween at World of Beatrix Potter – Bowness-on-Windermere

You can probably guess what the World of Beatrix Potter is all about, and with an enchanting Peter Rabbit garden to explore it’s an excellent way to explore her timeless tales with your children. On Sunday October 30th, kids who dress up go free when joined by a paying adult. There will also be Halloween themed crafts and face-painting available for your family to enjoy.

Grizedale Forest

Right in the heart of the Lake District, Grizdale offers an unrivalled day out for everyone. Discover walking & cycling trails or simply find a quiet spot to set up a picnic, admire the wildlife and relax... There are many events happening at Grizedale throughout the year, from 'Gruffalo-Spotting' to adventure races, trail runs and car rallies.

Choo choo choose a ride on the world-famous Cumbrian steam train.

The Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway runs right past us, with the starting point of Haverthwaite station just a five-minute drive from the hotel. Here you can soak up the atmosphere of a working steam station before hopping into a comfortable carriage for a leisurely journey.  And the best bit? There’s a great tea room at the end of the line (take our word for it!).

Fell Foot National Trust

Why not visit the beautiful Lakeshore park with stunning mountain views? Relax and soak up the atmosphere of this idyllic location, or take part in a range of activities, fun for all the family.

Friday night, movie night

If the fresh air has taken it out of the little ones (or teenage ones!), snuggle up for a movie night at the Swan every Friday night – giving you a chance to enjoy home cooked food in our unashamedly homely pub, the Swan Inn, or something a little more polished at the River Room restaurant.
